The number one rule to remember when using SMS Communication for your organization, is “Consent is King”

The following steps help The Campaign Registry verify that your organization is only texting people who have provided their consent!

Methods to Gather Opt-In Consent

There are a few cool ways to get your customers to say “yes” to your texts:

  • Web Form Opt-Ins: Add a checkbox and some info to your website’s contact or subscription form to get customers’ thumbs-up for SMS.

  • Keyword Mobile Opt-Ins: Customers can text a keyword to your number to sign up and give their consent.

  • Point-of-Sale Opt-Ins: Get customers to sign up at the checkout or another on-site spot.

  • Paper Form Opt-Ins: Go old-school and use paper forms to gather consent.

  • QR Codes: Use QR Codes to easily capture a contact. We recommend applying a “Double Opt-In” feature by having them reply with “Y” to agree when using a QR Code.

Web Form Opt-Ins

If you’re using an online form to gather consent, include a check box with the following Conditions:

  • I agree to receive SMS/MMS from <Your Biz Here>. Msg & Data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Msg frequency varies. Reply STOP to unsubscribe. Reply HELP for more info. View our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service here.

In your RevText 10DLC registration, include the link to the web form.

Keyword Mobile Opt-Ins

Mobile opt-ins are super simple and a popular way to gain consent.

Just ask users to text a keyword to your 10DLC number to sign up.

Example: Text “START” to (555) 867-5309.

Make sure the promotion shows opt-out instructions such as “Reply STOP to Unsubscribe”

Privacy Policy Essentials

Your privacy policy needs to be spot-on to avoid delays in your 10DLC registration approval.

CTIA guidelines say you must have a privacy policy that’s easy to find and understand.

If you’re using a web form for opt-ins, make sure the privacy policy is linked there too.

Your policy should state that consumer info isn’t sold or shared with third parties without consent (except when legally required).

Avoid sharing consumer info with third parties for marketing purposes.

For help with your privacy policy, talk to your legal team.

Wrapping It Up

No matter how you gather opt-in consent, follow these tips to stay compliant with CTIA regulations:

  • Have a clear, accessible privacy policy.
  • Explain why you’re collecting mobile numbers and getting opt-in consent.
  • Ensure opt-in consent is voluntary and obvious.

Keep it transparent. Let your customers know what they’re signing up for, how you’ll use their info, and how they can opt out if they change their minds.

We know this can be intimidating but remember, this protects everyone from getting spam texted all day!
